Ruta Sepetys (or Rūta Šepetys) is a Lithuanian-American writer of historical fiction. She was born on November 19, 1967 in Detroit, Michigan. Before she wrote her first novel, she spent 20 years in the music industry helping songwriters tell story through song. Her novels have won or been shortlisted for over 40 book prizes. She is best known for her novel, Between Shades of Gray, which was a New York Times Bestseller and Carnegie Medal finalist. She lives in a treehouse in Tennessee.
