Gordon Korman was born in Montreal, Canada and grew up in the Toronto area. When he was in grade 7, one of his teachers gave the class the freedom to write whatever they wanted during the class period for the rest of the year. The result was his first novel, This Can't Be Happening at Macdonald Hall. Korman said, "I sent my manuscript to Scholastic because I was the class monitor for Scholastic Book Orders, and figured I was practically an employee...It was a totally flukey and random way to launch a publishing career." This Can't Be Happening at Macdonald Hall was published by Scholastic when he was a freshman in high school. His books have been translated into 32 languages and have sold over 28 million copies worldwide. He lives on Long Island, outside New York City with his wife and family.
