School Closure Notice
School Closure Notice |
October 3, 2025 Dear Students, Parents, and Caregivers of Westwind, It is now 11:00 AM on Friday, and I was hopeful for a last-minute breakthrough in the negotiations between our teachers and the government. Unfortunately, no agreement has been reached. Therefore, I must inform you that all Westwind schools will be closed to students and teachers starting Monday, October 6th, until a deal is reached and ratified by all parties involved. To our students: I encourage you to take home your binders, textbooks, and free reading books. Please continue to dedicate time to your studies. Your parents and caregivers have access to a government-sponsored website that provides curriculum materials and resources to support your learning. I especially urge our Grade 12 students to seek additional avenues and resources to strengthen your learning as you prepare for your upcoming diploma exams. As of now, all diploma exams are still scheduled to proceed as planned. To our parents and caregivers: I hope you have explored the Alberta.ca website for childcare grants and online learning resources that can assist you in supporting your children’s education during this period. For parents of younger children, please prioritize reading with them, as fostering strong reading skills is one of the best gifts we can give our children. For parents with middle and older grade students, the online resources provided by the government and other educational platforms will be invaluable until we return to our classrooms and teachers. I understand that many of you share the surprise and disappointment of this situation. Resilient and creative individuals find ways to adapt to unexpected circumstances. Together, we can navigate this challenging time, and I am hopeful that a resolution will come soon. As circumstances evolve, I will keep you updated with information as soon as it becomes available. Take care, keep reading and learning, and stay safe.
Talk to you soon, Darren Mazutinec Superintendent |
