Province-Wide Lockout

Dear Parents/Guardians,
This letter provides an important update regarding the ongoing provincial labour dispute.
As you know, schools are currently closed due to strike action by the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA). The provincial Teachers' Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) has issued a reactive province-wide lockout notice to the ATA.
The lockout will start on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. This means that schools will continue to be closed to students, and the reason for the closure will change from a strike to a lockout. Teachers cannot return to work until an agreement has been reached.
Westwind School Division is governed by the provincial collective bargaining process, and the duration of the lockout is unknown.
We will continue to share updates via the division website and SchoolMessenger as new information becomes available.
For more information and answers to common questions, families are encouraged to visit the division’s Alberta Teachers’ Association Labour Action and FAQ webpages.
For urgent matters not addressed in the FAQ, please contact the Westwind School Division central office (403) 653-4991 or email wsd.pr@westwind.ab.ca.
Sincerely,
Darren Mazutinec
Superintendent of Schools
Westwind School Division
